At the January 14 meeting members and guests had the pleasure to hear a very interesting presentation by Mario Cardenas, General Director of Plaza Mexico and a long time friend of Lynwood Rotary Club.
Mario Cardenas has been the General Director of Plaza Mexico since it was founded 14 years ago. Since then through hard work and with the help of the community “La Plaza” has become a symbolic part of the city of Lynwood that provides a very pleasant experience to residents and city neighbors. La Plaza has many small businesses within that provide jobs to residents and helps the city grow.
Mario has visions of making La Plaza a better place to come to. There are plans in the making for the construction of a hotel to provide a place to stay for visitors and travelers from outside the state. He mention how our residents are, the welcoming tone in their voices which in the long run is going to help attract the public to come to Lynwood to enjoy the city’s services and it’s beauty. Also a Movie Theater has been considered. One multilevel parking lot is on the mind of Mr. Cardenas to facilitate parking space to La Plaza visitors, this construction would be located near la Huasteca restaurant. He spoke a little bit about the Lynwood Transit Area Strategic Plan, he said that he was going to get together with his team to coordinate with the city to come up with the best plan possible.
Oliver and Daniel mentioned that they attended the “Lynwood Transit Area Strategic Plan Community Scoping Meeting” that took place on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, 6 PM to 8 PM at the Lynwood Civic Center Bateman Hall Room 1. They said that the plan includes the Metro Green Line- Long Beach Transit Station Area, the I-105 Freeway, parts of Long Beach Blvd, Imperial Hwy, and Alameda st Industrial Park areas. The public that attended the meeting provided valuable information to the city to encourage bicycle use, to increase pedestrian mobility and safety, reduce traffic, increase housing opportunities, create economic growth through business attraction, and to identify public investments to support new development projects.
