For the meeting on February 26, 2015  12pm – 1:30pm , members and guests heard and observed  Joe Wang, Acting President of the Lynwood Rotary Club,  describe his recent trip with his wife to the northwestern part of China.  His excellent photographs showed a variety of landscapes which bring to mind other picturesque portions of the mountains and rivers of Switzerland and the deserts of northern Africa, complete with the local population riding camels  – except that Joe's photos were all from this China trip!  Joe had a number of photos of ethnic Mongolian people, to include their homes which sort of look like American Indian teepee type  homes which the people move from summer locations to winter locations.  A major portion of some of the areas shown in Joe's photos were people with the Muslim faith, to include large mosques.

(P.S.  Joe will be the speaker again on April 30, at which Rotary meeting, Joe will present his recent trip to Brazil and Argentina, so his most interesting Travelog presentations will continue at that meeting!)

Before the speaker, Daniel Miller announced the Youthact event for the coming Sunday, March 1 from 4pm to 8pm.   Organized by Tila and Fernando Millan, the Roosevelt ES Youthact group will participate in a Feed the Homeless Project at a Homeless Shelter in North Long Beach.  Individual contributions were requested to help pay for the food that Tila and Fernando will be purchasing.  Daniel mentioned that he would attend and make a make a contribution by check and several other Rotary members present indicated that they probably would attend.  Maria Garcia, a parent of a Youthact member from Roosevelt ES, handed out flyers to interested members in attendance, that included the address of the homeless shelter.

Daniel again mentioned the planned Youthact participation in the registration for the Annual LA Marathon Race.  The race is on Sunday, Mar 15, and the registration day is on Saturday, Mar 14.  Rotary members and guests who would like to accompany this group should coordinate in the coming week with Tila and Fernando.  For the LA Marathon, registration day on Sat March 14,  Registration is on line.  Go to LA Marathon.com; then to volunteers; and enter Lynwood Rotary / Interact; for the requested password, use: Lynwood.  On Mar 14, a charter bus leaves Lynwood Senior Center, at 6:30 am.  Call Fernando and Tila for more information:  (323) 422 -8328.

Everyone is encouraged to suggest speakers and programs for our weekly Rotary meetings.  In particular, we encourage everyone to talk to individuals about being a speaker, and to provide us with contact information, so we can follow up for specific meeting dates.
