At the weekly June 5 Lynwood Rotary Club meeting, we had a Rotary Board meeting from 12 Noon to 12:30, followed by our regular Rotary meeting. Members and guests were provided a very informative presentation from the SCE Credit Union whose Lynwood office is in Plaza Mexico. No strangers to the Lynwood Rotary Club, Allan Bran, Lynwood Branch Manager, SCE Credit Union, Lynwood Branch and Michael Zeledon, Business Development Executive, provided us with a detailed description of the services provided by the credit union, as well as a description of the historical origins of credit unions, going back to the Great Depression. It was very informative to have presented all the factors that are considered when loans are requested by start up businesses.

Mention was made of the importance of getting a lot of volunteers for the fireworks stand, to include older youth in high school and college, whether or not they have been involved in Rotary youth programs. Larry Esparza volunteered to find an organization that can provide the required security for the four nights after the fireworks stand closes until it opens the following morning.

Also, six members of the Rotary club accepted the six invitations offered to the club from the Youthact annual meeting and celebration that was held on Friday evening, June 6, in Room 1 of Bateman Hall. As usual, Fernando and Tila had the event very well planned and the large turnout of youth and parents from Roosevelt ES and also with participation of youth and parents from Helen Keller ES, is indicative of very successful Rotary supported youth activities at these two elementary schools within Lynwood.

Lynwood Rotary President Daniel Miller saluted South Gate Rotary President, Jose Luis Solache, who attended this event. And Lynwood Rotary Secretary Jim Morton, noted that Jose Solache previously was a honorary member of the Lynwood Rotary Club.
