Lynwood Rotary Meeting Update 06-12-2014
Members and guests were provided a very interesting talk from our speaker and performer, Johnny Legrande who talked about the steps to a Real Relationship, with easy to remember examples of the do's and don'ts for developing and maintaining a long lasting successful relationship with one's partner. Johnny concluded with three great songs with percussion instruments and a guest in the audience volunteered to do tambourine percussion for one of the songs.
Public Information Officer (PIO), for the City, Marisela Santana, provided detailed information with hand-outs of a number of events occurring within the community in the coming weeks. Victor Ortiz, Public relations and community outreach for the Club, talked about his efforts and progress in recruiting high school students and college students to help work the fireworks stand for July 1 thru July 4, plus the set-up day June 31. Joe Wang mentioned the legal requirement that persons selling the fireworks must be 18 years or older. However, Daniel mentioned that younger youth can assist in organizing the product on the shelves and in providing information to the public, such as handing out sales brochures provided by the supplier, Phantom.
Not mentioned at the meeting, but very worth of mention, was the youth recognition evening event and dinner organized, as usual by Tila and Fernando Millan, that was held Friday evening, June 6, in Room 1 of Bateman Hall. There was a large turnout of students, and parents and school leaders from Roosevelt ES and also from Helen Keller ES. Youthact participants received certificates for various accomplishments, as well as certificates for the club leaders for this year and the leaders for the coming year, starting July 1. Western cowboy and cowgirl costumes was the theme, and line dancing with the usual western music was part of the entertainment.
