On Thursday, June 26, for our weekly luncheon meeting, members and guests were treated to a very interesting and well presented explanation of the trip Joe Wang and his wife took, touring Greece and Turkey. Projected on the screen, his many photographs provided images of these two countries, some of which are seldom seen.

Before Joe's presentation, outgoing/ past president Daniel Miller presented several items. In the absence of the Public Information Officer (PIO) for the City, Marisela Santana, Daniel talked about two city events. The Lynwood Farmers Market has returned as of last Thursday, June 19, and will continue each Thursday through September 4. from 4pm to 8pm, at the same location as last year, which is Ham Park, along Atlantic Ave. There will also a movie in the park starting at 7:45 pm every Thursday. Daniel encouraged everyone to patronize the Farmers Market vendors, and mentioned that last year he bought vegetables and fruits there every Thursday evening while the Farmers Market was open. Also mentioned was The 5K/10K Run and Walk at Lynwood City Park on Saturday, June 28. This is part of the MyLynwood Healthy Cities 2014 Program and is jointly sponsored by The LA County Sheriff's Century Station, The City of Lynwood and the Greater Lynwood Chamber of Commerce. Fernando and Tila Millan mentioned that the Roosevelt ES Youthact Club will be helping out with the 5K/10K Run and Walk event.

Then Daniel mentioned the importance of everyone working the Rotary Fireworks Stand from Tuesday, July 1 through Friday, July 4. The product will be delivered by Phantom Fireworks at 8am, July 1. So it is important that all club members show up at 8am on Tuesday, July 1, in order to get the product placed on the shelves and ready for sales as quickly as possible on Tuesday morning. Tila and Fernando are helping with getting volunteers, to include getting some parents to work the fireworks stand. Daniel mentioned that recruiting youth to work the stand is very important, especially high school and college students. Prior experience with Rotary is not a requirement, and youth 18 years and older are particularly needed.

Instead of a previously scheduled Rotary luncheon meeting at the Fireworks stand on Thursday noon, the weekly luncheon meeting will be held on Friday, July 4, starting at 12 Noon. The meeting and luncheon will be at the tables that will be set up by Lucy for the entire time of July 1 through July 4.
