At the November 6th meeting, in honor of Veteran's Day, next week on November 11, members and guests heard Frank Calderon read a letter he wrote to a Veteran Affairs Unit in Washington D.C. about the importance of honoring all veterans for their sacrifices, as well as for the sacrifices of their families.
In addition there was a brief presentation by José Avila, on the staff of the City of Lynwood Public Works Department, promoting a community repainting event on Saturday, November 15, from 7:00 am - 4:00 pm at Lynwood City Park, next to the Transit Center Building at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Bullis Road. Jose's son, Oscar Avila is in charge of this community fix up event, which is part of his requirements to earn his Eagle Boy Scout award. Daniel encouraged everyone to come out and help with this worthy community project. Paint supplies and tools will be provided by the city. Wear work clothes appropriate for repair tasks and for painting.
Also two parents form Roosevelt Elementary School Youthact, Maria Garcia and Misty Arellano, talked about the donations needed for the Thanksgiving Family Baskets and also a fundraising event at  Yogurtland in Plaza Mexico on November 21. Funds raised from these two projects will be used to buy T-Shirts and/or sweatshirts for Youthact Members.
At today's meeting, donations of chocolates and boxes of cookies were received from the Lynwood Senior Center Friends Club and from Rotary member, Ramon Rodriguez. Daniel suggested that other members contribute to the list of items for the Thanksgiving Family Baskets, to include restaurant gift certificates (McDonalds, Carl's, Subway, etc.), that could be delivered or mailed to the home of Tila and Fernando in Lynwood.
At the end of the meeting, Daniel led the group in a brief extemporaneous talk, similar to the Toast Master Club practice, on the topic, a scary or difficult task that was accomplished.
