The November 12, Meeting was held at the home of Frank and Pearline Calderon, 4010 Josephine Street, Lynwood. The Lynwood Rotary, with the hands-on work of President Martina Rodriguez, and the cooking assistance of a neighbor, provided lunch for the approximate 25 volunteer workers, who were doing a variety of home repairs and upgrades during the week starting Monday, Nov 9 thru Friday, Nov 13. Seven Lynwood Rotary members plus Martina's neighbor, who provided much of the food, attended the lunch at the Calderon home.

Mentioned in last week's meeting email update, here is the background information that explains why the Lynwood Rotary provided the lunch. Frank Calderon is a long time resident of Lynwood along with his wife, Pearline. Frank is a 100% disabled veteran. Under the sponsorship of the Lakewood Chapter of the Disabled Veterans (DAV), Frank was recently awarded a home remodeling grant from the TEAM DEPOT Foundation. Volunteers from the Paramount store and several other Home Depot stores, along with DAV volunteers performed much needed repairs to the home all during the week.

The day before on Wednesday evening, Nov 11, at the home of President Martina Rodriguez, a Lynwood Rotary Board meeting was held. In addition to final coordination for providing the lunch the next day at the Calderon's home, coming events were discussed. This includes plans for the Rotary club's participation in the annual Candy Cane Lane Parade on Friday, Dec 4. In addition to the Rotary float for the parade, the Youthact members from Roosevelt ES, along with some Youthact members from Helen Keller ES, are the major part of the Rotary participation in the annual Parade in Lynwood.

Daniel was asked to represent Lynwood Rotary at the Closing Ceremony at the Calderon home repair event, scheduled for Friday, Nov 13 at 3pm. It turned out that the actual ceremony was about 4pm, due to ongoing tasks. In fact, the completion of the exterior painting, and several other tasks will continue in the next several days of the coming week. Daughter Erica Calderon provided certificates of appreciation to organizers of the event, and Daniel accepted the certificate of appreciation prepared for the Lynwood Rotary club. Besides the food for the Thursday luncheon, on behalf of the Rotary Club, Daniel brought a dozen plants, to add to other new plants for the new landscaping. The dozen new plants from Daniel's extensive home plant collection are all drought tolerant, as well as the other new plants provided from the Home Depot staff team.

Daniel took extensive photos of the event for both days. Copies of these photos will be provided to the Calderon family, along with a CD of the photos. Also Daniel will bring to the Thursday Rotary luncheon meeting on Nov 19, a collage of some of the photos, with the Certificate of Appreciation in the middle, as a record of this important community charitable event, for which the Lynwood Rotary was most pleased to be a participant.
