At the June 4th Meeting, members and guests heard and participated in presentations by the scheduled speaker, Irene Cortez, Leader of the Support Group, Down Right Blessed, as well as speakers representing Choose Health L A Kids, and the American Cancer Society’s fifth annual City of Lynwood’s Relay For Life.  The latter event takes place the weekend of June 27-28, at Lynwood City Park.  Rotary Club Secretary Maria (Lulu) Quinionez is helping organize the Lynwood Rotary Club’s team for the 24 hour event.

Concerning Choose Health L A Kids, this is a joint effort of St. Francis Medical Center and Lynwood Community Parents.  The event will be on the Main Lawn of St. Francis Medical Center, Tuesday, 9:30 am - 12 Noon pm, June 16.  There will be a Photo Voice Exhibition, Exposing Unhealthy Food Marketing.  RSVP with the hospital by Fri, June 12.  The guest speaker will be Mayor Jose Luis Solache.

Concerning the talk by Irene Cortez, she explained her challenges getting a proper education and therapy for her eight year old daughter with Down Syndrome.   She founded Down Right Blessed, which meets monthly.  Irene also mentioned how one can enroll your child in the coming Special Olympics.

Marisela Santana, Public Information Officer for the City of Lynwood, provided information on a variety of coming events, including the City of Lynwood’s Second Annual Juneteenth Unity Festival that will take place on Sat, June 13 at Lynwood City Park.  Marisela also mentioned that for the summer, the first Movies in the Park takes place on Thur, June 18, at 7:45 pm at Ham Park.  And the Farmers Market and Street Fair starts again for the summer on Thur, July 2, 4 - 9 pm, also at Ham Park.
