At the May 7th meeting members and guests heard Marisela Santana, Public Information Officer for the City of Lynwood, talk about the Celebration of Children With Special Needs event on Sunday February 22 at Bateman Hall. The event included luncheon and entertainment. Assisted by Jamel Goodloe, Marisela presented a slide show of many colorful photos showing the children, their parents and a wide variety of support groups with resources for the children at tables. The main hall was full with more than half children. Marisela noted the multitude of smiling faces of the children and of their parents. There was music and games. Marisela noted the role of the LUSD and community groups in holding the event.
After the presentation Marisela explained a variety of coming events within the City of Lynwood.
Saturday, May 16, 10:00 am-12:00 noon Bateman Hall, come and see the final design for the new Lynwood Linear Park. Also join Lot To Spot and the City of Lynwood to choose your favorite designs and themes for mosaics that will be installed in the park.
Also Saturday, May 16, 10:00am-3:00pm, Lynwood Festival of the Arts at Lynwood High School. Activities include: Cultural Art Show, Arts and Crafts, Choir singing, Culinary Arts, Dance Performances, Food and Drinks, Face Painting, D.J. Stage Performances, Theatrical Performances, Chalk Art Walk, Photography Exhibition and Line Dancers.
And in June, the 5th Annual Relay for Life, taking place on Saturday, June 27 from 9am, through 9:00 am on Sunday, 28 at Lynwood City Park. Participants in this event seek sponsors, form teams, and walk together for a 24 hour period one person from every team must be walking at all times during the 24 hour period The American Cancer Society uses founds raised to support cancer research and provide special programs for families dealing with cancer.
