At  the  June  26th  Meeting,  members  and  guests  heard  and  participated  in the annual installation dinner meeting and celebration, 6pm, Friday, June 26th at Bateman Hall.

Words of welcome were made by the Lynwood Rotary Club President, Rajinder Dhaliwal, thanking all the members and guests for attending and participating in this important annual event.

The order of the installation meeting was changed in order that the Assistant District Governor for our Lynwood Club, Ms. Freddie King, could perform the installation actions first, starting with the demotion of the present President and club officers, followed by the installation of the incoming President, Martina Rodriguez, and the club officers for the year 2015-2016.  Also Ms. King  installed two new members:  Ivan Esquivel, who was nominated by Lucy Avalos, and  Arturo Reyes, nominated by Ramon Rodriguez

President Raj also provided an overview of the experiences of the club during the last year and expressed great appreciation for the support from all the club members.  He also expressed great appreciation for the very involved and active Rotary Youthact group at Roosevelt ES, led by Rotary members, and teachers, Fernando and Tila Millan.  

President Raj recognized and gave an award to five members:  Lucy Avalos, For Service Above and Beyond;  Fernando & Tila Millan, For Leadership for Youth;  Joe Wang, For Service Above Self;  Ramon Rodriguez, For Service Exemplary of the Four Way Test;  and Daniel Miller, For Rotarian of the Year.  Witnessed by a large group of Youthact members and their parents from Roosevelt ES, Fernando & Tila Millan recognized the following Youthact leaders for the coming year:  Elizar Quijada, President;  Amarani Machuca, Vice President;  Kailyn Canez, Treasurer;  Jose Laguna, Sergeant-at-Arms;  George Rangel, Community Liaison;  Mariana Garcia, Former Historian;  and Maday Machuca, Former Vice President.

Incoming President  Martina Rodriguez, also thanked everyone for attending this annual event.  She noted that the participation of all members, as well as guests to our meetings, and members of the Lynwood community will be needed in order to have a successful year for the Lynwood Rotary Club in 2015 and 2016.

 Martina also mentioned that the club witnessed the passing of long-time Rotary member Jim Morton.  Jim Morton served as Club Secretary for many years, and also participated in many community activities, to include serving on the Lynwood City Council for one four-year term, that included serving as Mayor for one year.

The Club Secretary, Maria (Lulu) Quinonez described the Club’s decision to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life on Sat and Sun, June 27-28.  She again explained the plan that club members would participate on Sat, starting at 9am for several hours, and again in the evening at 7-9 pm.  Also some of the participants will return on Sunday morning when the 24 race/ walk ends at 9am.

Incoming President, Martina Rodriguez encouraged volunteers to work the fireworks stand July 1-4.  Also, she distributed a promotional flyer to hand out to Lynwood residents which promotes buying fireworks at the Rotary fireworks stand.  Daniel mentioned that Phantom Fireworks will deliver their product in the morning of June 30, so we will also need volunteers to unpack the product and organize the product inside the fireworks stand.

Also, it was noted that  for  the  summer, there is the  Movies  in  the  Park Event that takes  place  on  Thursdays  at  7:45 pm  at  Ham  Park.  And  the  Farmers  Market  and  Street  Fair  starts  again  for  the  summer  on  Thur,  July  2, 4 – 9 pm,  also  at  Ham  Park.
