At the October 9 meeting, Lynwood Rotary members and guests saw and heard the below described group.

John Laven and Rosie Rosales, Executive Directors of the Hispanic Urban Center

This is an after school program that involves doing the program Palabra. Palabra means word in Spanish. It involves teaching youth to keep their word. Palabra is a gang intervention program. Within the Lynwood Unified School District, this after school program will start at the following schools: Hostler Middle School, Lynwood Middle School and Cesar Chavez Middle School. Maggie Godoy, Case Manager for Gang Intervention / Gang Prevention is involved with this program but was not able to be part of the presentation.

In the evening on October 9, the City of Lynwood held its Annual State of the City Address Event in the auditorium of Bateman Hall. Our Rotary weekly update emails publicized for several weeks this important annual city event. This was the first time that the Mayor's State of the City Address could be seen and heard through the internet, so perhaps some of our members and others who receive the weekly Rotary updates, tuned-in and thus were a part of this important city event.

Rotary Tickets for Annual Rotary Foundation Celebration

All Lynwood Rotary members have been issued a book of tickets, for a value of $10.00 per ticket or $100.00 for the ticket book. A raffle drawing will be held at the Celebration Event at the Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, on Saturday, November 8, at 8:30 pm. Members are expected to seel all the tickets or make a contribution by purchasing the tickets themselves. The Rotary Foundation is the funding source for many important charitable projects. Friends of Rotary are requested to support these causes by purchasing tickets from Rotary members.
