At the November 20th meeting, members and guests heard Mr. J.D. Whitaker, Manager for Parking Enforcement and Manager for Animal Control, City of Lynwood, talk about his training and new responsibility providing animal control services for the City of Lynwood. Previously Lynwood contracted with the Los Angeles County for this service. J.D. explained the extensive training that the Lynwood staff received for animal control work. J.D. brought equipment and special tools that animal control officers use. He demonstrated the use of each tool. In apprehending dogs  the officers have to catch the animals but they do it in a manner that doesn't injure the animal. Also animal control is responsible for enforcing that all dogs have licenses. J.D. described a recent experience were he had to rescue a women who had been bitten by a pit-bull dog and at the same get control of the dog. There were questions from the audience of how J.D. and his staff carryout specific tasks.
 

Before J.D. Whitaker's presentation, Felipe Velasquez, again talked about the planned trip of students in a dancing group, Danza Ritmia Popular, from the Universidad Autónima de Baja California, Tijuana Campus. The group will perform as follows: Friday, December 5, 2:00-3:00pm at Lynwood High School; Saturday, December 6, 7-10pm at St. Emydius Church, and Sunday, December 7, at Plaza Mexico, time to be determined.

Maria Garcia a parent from Roosevelt Elementary School, talked about the Thanksgiving Day Baskets as a fundraising event for the Youthact Club and also requested financial support for turkeys for needy families.

Jose Avila talked about his son's Community Project Day at Lynwood Park last Saturday, November 15. He thanked the Rotary Club for their support. Oscar Avila was responsible to organize and to implement this project using volunteers, as a requirement to become a Eagle Scout.
